The Ultra-Processed Mind® was founded in 2025 by Prof. Susan Shelmerdine, a children's imaging expert (paediatric radiologist), NIHR funded AI researcher, and award-winning communicator - featured on BBC News, Times Radio, and many international stages.
The brand grew from Susie’s unique vantage point: a frontline doctor and academic immersed in AI research in healthcare, who also saw its hidden side effects on a personal and professional level - namely how algorithms subtly reshape the way we think, decide, and even see ourselves.
The brand mission is simple but urgent : to help people as many people reclaim clarity in an AI-saturated world.
Through newsletters, talks, media commentary, and masterclasses, The Ultra-Processed Mind makes sense of the unseen cognitive costs of technology, and offers practical tools to stay sharp, sovereign, and human.
The vision is a global community where intelligent conversation sparks new ideas, challenges passive tech use, and inspires healthier collaboration between humans and machines, whoever you are. This website and brand is a space dedicated to this mission.
